Traditional Forró is the foundation of it all. With roots in northeastern Brazil, this style brings the dances that marked the popular parties and celebrations of the countryside. In our Traditional Forró classes, you’ll learn the classic steps, the movements that characterize this authentic style, and the musicality that brings the rhythm of forró to life. It’s a unique opportunity to dive into the true essence of this dance full of history.
Forró Universitário is a more modern and urban adaptation of traditional forró, with fluid movements, exploring more upper body movements such as spins, and influenced by the culture of southeastern Brazil. This style emerged due to the migration of Northeasterners to the Southeast in search of work due to the drought. There, they settled in search of a better life and brought their culture with them! This style began around the 2000s and has a youthful vibe, adding more electronic instrumentation to the music. If you enjoy a more dynamic dance, with creativity and energy, our Forró Universitário classes are perfect for you!
Forró Roots is a style that celebrates forró pé de serra, the most traditional and authentic version of forró music from the Northeast of Brazil. It can be said that this style of dance has its roots in Itaúnas, in the Southeast of Brazil. The Forró de Itaúnas is recognized and protected by law as a cultural and intangible heritage of Brazil. This style features a dance with many leg movements and a close embrace that creates a deeper physical connection with your partner.
